I Spy a Grasshopper!
High above a family’s barn in Andover, CT. I spied this brass grasshopper… again another weathervane that hubby turned around for. I’m fortunate that he never minds my request for a photo turn-around and stop!
The title hubby suggested for my post was “When you snatch the pebble from my hand grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave.” Do you know where that quote is from? Leave me your answer in comments!
I would love to know how this family chose their “grasshopper” weathervane, but it’s only left to my imagination? We saw so many on our ride today… mostly eagles and horses, with a few whales thrown in for good measure… but it was this unusual grasshopper who made my blog!

Interesting. I never watched that Kung Fu show, so I wouldn’t have known but my guess is that maybe this family was a fan of the show, so chose the grasshopper?
It is curious as to why one would choose a grasshopper to top a weathervane.

I always thought that grasshopper weathervanes were inspired by the famous vane over Faneuil Hall wrought by Shem Drowne in the 1700s. I’m probably prejudiced because Shem is a member of my family tree. I just saw a great grasshopper weathervane this week, too, and I’ll be posting it later this summer. Someone beat me to the punch with the Kung Fu.

Thank you for the history on it you shared. I”m looking forward to seeing your grasshopper… we seem to be on the same path. Now when we both post the identical one at the same time… well that will be eerie!
