15 Days… Stop the Spread: Life has Changed… Day 1

15 Days… Stop the Spread: Life has Changed… Day 1

Today is Day 1 of President Trump’s “Stop the Spread“… ordering people to stay at home if your job isn’t essential. Schools in most states are now closed… all five of my granddaughters are home and their parents are scrambling for a plan on homeschooling. If you’ve ever wondered how homeschooling works… we are all going to now get a first hand look… and hoping it will work for you. The girls seem to be adapting much better with it than the parents… but the big question is… “when will they be able to return to school?”

Our Flag is resilient… as we are!

States are beginning to shut down their restaurants… the government wants to limit groups of people in areas… but they’re allowed to serve takeout… so we need to try and support them once or twice a week… or they won’t be back! I’m going to miss my morning breakfast out… as my eggs and home fries just aren’t going to taste the same eaten out of a styrofoam container! I did support my local pizza “Zuppardi’s” today, stopping for some of their “famous” frozen pizzas they now sell….  that was easy! Now whenever I crave pizza…. just turn the oven on and pop in!

As of  Day 1, “Stop the Spread”, we have 6,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) throughout all 50 states… and globally there are more than 197,490 coronavirus cases with over 7,940 deaths… with Italy alone reaching a death toll of 2,500.

There are many big businesses beginning to close, as well as the large name automakers… it reminds me of WWII when they stopped using iron to build cars… changing their production lines to build for the Army. Maybe that might take place soon here. The government did request that they at least close for for this 15 day “stop the spread”… then he will reassess the situation.

Just like what happened in 911 I’m learning new words… now we hear words like “Coronavirus”, “COVID-19”, “self quarantine”, “shelter in place”, “pandemic”… I don’t like these new words!

The President is talking about sending out checks to “everyone” within the next two weeks to help families deal with loss of income. While this sounds great… I have a hard time wrapping my head around exactly how you can really make that happen? Do they send direct deposit as they know who has social security, they know who pays taxes, but what about the seniors who don’t file as they don’t have to pay? We will see!

There are 110 deaths across the United States as of today!

There is so much happening on this Day 1 with people scrambling to go out … going to the bar for their last drink, or going to the gym for their last work-out. What they need to do, is go to the grocery stores before the mad race begins to find the coveted items like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels and I’m already hearing that bread is disappearing off the shelves. I guess we will learn how to bake our own bread if we can find flour. Our grandparents baked their own, they didn’t buy sliced white bread… that was too expensive to buy… they were feeding large families. Our grandparents often came from large families… and often needing several loaves each day to feed them. I have ancestors who had over 15 children in one family… they probably baked bread twice or more a day… and they baked in wood-fired stoves. Nothing was easy for them!

So what happens after 15 days? That’s the scary question! President Trump says he will reassess our country and make a decision at that time, so until then we just have to stay home as much as possible, wash our hands often, and do the best we can. While both my children work in essential jobs… and thankful they have jobs… I feel for the ones out of work with no income coming in… I can’t even imagine what runs through their heads at night when they try to sleep… wondering what tomorrow will bring. Help your friends… help your neighbors… help the elderly… that’s all we can do right now. Think of others!

We have been “Shelter-in-place” for over a week now. I agree that these new words are not fun. Our stores have been out of toilet paper since the beginning and other shelves are pretty bare too. Stay well.

In New York, we have the highest number of cases. Stay well, Jeanne.
